Comcast (Xfinity) Approved DOCSIS 3.0 and DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modems

Modem list updated July 2017. Prices updated every hour.
Below are all the modems on the Comcast Approved Cable Modem List and that can be bought at Amazon, Walmart or Best Buy. There are over 45 different modems on that list and we’ve gone through all of them to find the ones that can be purchased at major retailers.

If you’re paying $10 a month to rent a modem from Comcast, that’s $120 a year or $600 over 5 years. You can buy a new one that will pay for itself in less than one year. Its easy to install. Just hookup modem, open web browser on attached computer and follow the on-screen instructions.

Comcast / Xfinity Triple Play or Voice customers: The modems listed immediately below will not work if you have Comcast/Xfinity Voice or Triple Play. To see modems that will work, read this: Comcast Voice Modems

DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modems

Comcast recommends that you buy a DOCSIS 3.0 modem for all of their internet plans. All of these modems below will work on all speed tiers: Economy, Performance, Ultra, Blast! and Extreme. For Extreme 150, choose a modem with at least 8-channel downstream bonding to maximize your speed. They are the ARRIS/Motorola SB6141. SB6183. SB6190. SBG6580. SBG6700. SBG6782. SBG6900. Netgear C3000. CG3000Dv2. C3700. C6300 and Zoom 5354 .

Comcast business customers should buy either the ARRIS/Motorola SB6141. SB6190 or the SB6183 for all speed tiers up to and including Deluxe 100 Plus. For the Deluxe 250, only the SB6183 and the SB6190 will maximize your speeds.

All of these modems are high quality and have pretty much the same features, except of course those with routers built in. So don’t worry too much about deciding which one to buy. Price should be a main factor in your buying decision. Buy one now and start saving those rental fees!

DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modems

Comcast does not officially support DOCSIS 2.0 modems anymore. These used to work, but we cannot recommend them anymore.

Comcast Voice or Triple Play Customers:

The TM722g has 4-channel downstream, the TM822G and the TG862G have 8 and the SVG2482AC has 24. If you don’t need the built in WIFI router of the TG862G, you can put it in bridge mode and use your own WIFI router.

Another option is get rid of Comcast Voice and sign up with a voice over IP (VoIP) company such as Callcentric. For $3.45 per month plus 1.5 cents per minute (other pricing plans available), you can use your current phone number, get free voice mail, caller id, forward your messages to your email, automatic spam / telemarketing call blocking, message text alerts, block and forward certain calls, 911 service; all the features of Comcast Voice plus many more. Quality is as good as Comcast’s. If you don’t use your home phone much anymore, this is a great option. Now, you could buy your own modem and save even more per month. We’ve been using Callcentric for almost 5 years now and absolutely love it.
