2017 DSLCC Summer Teacher Institute (Click Here)

The popular Summer Teacher Institute offered by Dabney S. Lancaster Community College will be held this year in June and July, with a dozen courses on the schedule. The first classes begin June 12.

Currently employed teachers may select courses to gain new skills or earn credits to satisfy requirements for recertification. Individuals planning to become teachers, or have a desire to study selected specialized topics, are invited to enroll in these courses on a space-available basis.

The classes include a wide variety of topics related to the fields of education and educational technology, including “Incorporating STEM/STEAM in Your Classroom”, “Accurate, Engaging History”, and “The ABC’s of Behavior”, among other topics.

The success of the Summer Teacher Institute is well-documented, with many teachers enrolling year after year. The format is very popular; most of the courses are held for two or four days, leaving most of the summer free for other professional and personal pursuits. Commenting on the Institute, Dr. Rainone, DSLCC President, points out that new technologies continue to emerge for classroom applications and feels that the College should be a prime resource for teachers who wish to integrate these technologies into their lesson plans.

“DSLCC selects very qualified, experienced instructors to teach the Summer Institute courses, bringing a breadth and depth of practical experience to the experience,” he noted. “Most importantly, the students in local school systems benefit and are able to enjoy new ways in which to learn and retain knowledge and skills as they advance through the school year.”
